People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) has received 915 complaints of election law violations and election violence incidents in the run up to the general elections.
According to PAFFREL, there were 114 complaints related to acts of violence among the complaints received in relation to reports of 972 election and general law violations reported by Sunday. Out of the total 972 reported incidents, 645 incidents were confirmed incidents.
There were two killings and 27 grievous assaults among 132 acts of election violence incidents while a total of 49 hospitalisations have been reported to date.
The PAFFREL report, which also covers the pre-election period, notes 123 violations relating to abuse of state power, resources and misusing State sector employees.
Among the 717 election law violations, 453 complaints were of carrying out illegal election propaganda.
Most number of complaints have been received from Western Province. Out of the 194 complaints recorded in the province, 98 incidents were reported from the Colombo District.
In other parts of the country, 171 complaints were from Southern Province and 123 complaints from North Western Province while North Central Province reported the least with 48 incidents.
