Over 600 candidates to contest for Uva PC election on 20 Sept.

Over 600 candidates have submitted nominations to contest for Uva Provincial Council election which is scheduled to be held on 20 September.
The Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has instructed the Returning Officers of the two districts of the Province - Moneragala and Badulla districts to make all arrangements to hold the election between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm on September 20.
The acceptance of nomination ended yesterday and 617 candidates from 14 political parties and 11 independent groups have submitted nominations for election to the Province.
Out of the total, 294 candidates are contesting for 18 seats in Badulla district and 323 candidates are for 14 seats in the Moneragala district.
Ten political parties and four independent groups have submitted their nominations for the Badulla district while twelve political parties and seven independent groups have submitted their nominations for the Moneragala district.
The political party or the independent group that obtains the highest number of votes in the province will get two bonus seats.
Meanwhile acceptance of application for postal votes also ended yesterday. The Election Secretariat announced that the allocation of preference numbers for the candidates will be announced on Monday.
