The Tamil National Alliance provincial board of ministers is likely to be decided by Saturday (28), with at least two portfolios expected to go to qualified professionals in the fields of medicine and education who emerged victorious at last Saturday’s poll, party sources said.
The Provincial Health portfolio is likely to be granted to Dr. Sathialingam, an elected councillor from Vavuniya who topped the TNA’s preferential list in the district with over 20,000 votes. A former Director of Education from the Kilinochchi District Thambirajah Kurukularajah is likely to be appointed Northern Province Minister of Education, the sources said.
PLOTE Leader Dharmalingam Siddharthan who contested and won in Saturday’s election is also likely to be granted a ministerial portfolio.
In addition to the Chief Minister, retired Supreme Court Justice C.V. Wigneswaran, four other provincial ministers will be appointed for the newly-elected Northern Provincial Council.
The question of the TNA’s two bonus seats on the council will also be resolved in due course with at least one seat expected to go to one of the party’s defeated Muslim candidates in the Mannar District, Ayub Nasmeen.
There was some lobbying for the second bonus seat to be granted to TULF Leader and veteran V. Anandasangaree, but the TNA leadership does not favour the move, party sources said. (DB)
