Norochcholai third phase testing next week

The generators of the third phase of Sri Lanka’s first coal power plant, Lakvijaya coal power plant in Norochcholai will be started next week, Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said. A senior official of the State-owned power authority said the generators of the third phase of the power plant will be test run first. They are to be connected to the national grid next month. The third phase of the coal power plant has a capacity of 300 MW. With the completion of the three phases the power plant adds 900 MW to the national grid. It has been reported that China’s President Xi Jinping during his visit to Sri Lanka next month will join President Mahinda Rajapaksa to commission the third and last phase of the China-funded and built power plant.
