Issuing a clarion call about the fate of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, common opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena charged yesterday there was no SLFP in the ruling UPFA Government.
“It is the SLFP supporter and other progressive forces that brought this Government to power. But today, there is no SLFP present in his Government,” Sirisena told a news conference.
He said that there had been no new membership recruits to the SLFP for the past two years.
“Over the past 7-8 years, a terrible tragedy has befallen the SLFP,” Sirisena said.
His own political vision was based on the philosophy of S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, the common candidate added.
“My SLFP is the party that was created according to the vision of S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike,” he said.
