Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) General Secretary Minister Duminda Dissanayake yesterday said the party’s Central Committee would not take any disciplinary action against SLFP members who boycotted the party’s 65th convention.
Addressing the weekly SLFP media briefing Dissanayake claimed voters would “teach them a real lesson” at the next election for not participating at the anniversary celebrations in Kurunegala.
“Even if they have different political ideologies they should attend the party’s convention since it was a common occasion for all SLFPers,” he charged.
A group of MPs representing the Joint Opposition including Dullas Alahapperuma and Bandula Gunawardena, on Thursday said they would not participate at the convention.
Another group of JO MPs led by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa left for Malaysia on Thursday to attend the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP). (CG)
