New fuel stock released, old stock to be tested

The Petroleum Ministry has distributed a newly imported petrol consignment island wide and removed the remaining petrol of the old consignment from the refilling stations.

The old fuel had been brought back to the Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL) for testing, the Ministry said.

According to the CPSTL, the company supplied fuel to the Ceylon petroleum Corporation (CPC) as well as to the Lanka Indian Oil Company (LIOC). The new consignment has therefore been distributed to both parties.

CPSTL Chairman, Major General M.R.W. De Zoysa has stated that the newly imported fuel stock was distributed after subjecting the stock to special tests to ascertain its quality.

He has also assured that there was no shortage of fuel in the market.  The Petroleum Industries Minister earlier rejected allegations that the government imported low quality petrol, saying the substandard fuel motorists received was contaminated with rain water and residues at the respective stations.
