Senior administrative officer W.M.N.J Pushpakumara has been appointed as the new Commissioner General of Examinations.
He is to assume duty on 1 January. The service period of the present Examination Commissioner Dr. Anura Edirisinghe ends on 31 December and the government has not extended his service.
Some education sector trade unions protested extension of the service of Edirisinghe beyond the retiring age of 60 years.
The cabinet has approved the appointment of Pushpakumara as the Examination Commissioner.
He is presently the Commissioner of Educational Publications.
