New British High Commissioner presents credentials to President Sirisena

Congratulates Sri Lanka on passing 19th Amendment to Constitution

The new British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, James Dauris, presented his letter of credence from Queen Elizabeth II to President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (29) at a formal ceremony at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo. The High Commissioner congratulated President Sirisena on the passing of the 19th Amendment to the Sri Lankan Constitution and warmly welcomed his recent visit to London in the context of the strong and close relationship that Sri Lanka and the UK have for so long enjoyed. Dauris joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1995 and served most recently as British Ambassador to Peru. Prior to that, he served in Colombia and Moscow;he has also worked in London on South Asian and European Union issues. Dauris has a degree in law from the University of Cambridge and worked as a solicitor in the City of London for a number of years before joining the FCO.

UK envoy off to Kandy today

British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Mr James Dauris New British High Commissioner James Dauris will be visiting Kandy today (30) in what would be his first formal tour outside Colombo. During this visit, he will pay his respects to the sacred tooth relic at the Dalada Maligawa, make a courtesy call on the Most Venerable Tibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayake Thero of the Malwatte Chapter, make a courtesy call on the Governor of the Central Province Suranganie Ellawala at the Governor’s office and call on the Bishop of Kandy Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Vianney Fernando at 873, Peradeniya Road.
