Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) on Friday escorted the 27 Tamil Nadu fishermen, who were released by a Sri Lankan court following their arrest earlier this week, and handed them over to the Indian Coast Guard.
Two Sri Lanka naval vessels attached to the Eastern Naval Command had escorted the fishermen along with their four fishing boats and handed over to the Indian Coast Guard Ship “Rani Abbakka” at the International Maritime Boundary Line off Point Pedro today.
The Navy arrested the 27 Indian fishermen when they were poaching in the Sri Lankan waters East of Mullaitivu coast on December 23 and seized their four fishing vessels.
The Indian fishermen have been released by the Trincomalee Additional Magistrate on Wednesday (25).
