Former president Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son MP Namal Rajapaksa, who was remanded after being arrested by the police’s Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) on 11 July, was released on cash bail of Rs. 50,000, with three sureties of 500,000 each, by Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne yesterday.
The magistrate imposed a travel ban on the suspect and also allowed the FCID to peruse the bank details of the suspect in four banks for further inquiry.
Rajapaksa was arrested over allegations of misappropriating Rs. 70 million in funds belonging to an Indian company, the Krrish Group, which paid the money to the Carlton Sports Network as part of a sponsorship agreement for a rugby tournament.
