Steps have been taken to introduce a mobile software application which, for the first time in Sri Lanka, will enable its users to view exhibits in a museum and access detailed information about them.

The ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) says that this mobile software, called ‘Sri Lankan Museum’, is scheduled to be introduced for viewing exhibits at the Magampura Ruhunu Heritage Museum.

This museum was declared open by President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday.

ICTA also says that users can upload this software onto their smartphones and, while viewing the exhibits, can simultaneously listen to detailed information about each of them.

The relevant information is available in Sinhala, Tamil or English depending on the user’s preference.

ICTA also says that the Magampura Ruhunu Heritage Museum is the 95th free Wi-Fi zone established under the program of setting up 1000 free Wi-Fi zones throughout the country.
