Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Media Secretary Rohan Weliwita was summoned by the Homagama Police yesterday to record a statement regarding the misplacement of 3000 video cassettes belonging to the Presidential Secretariat.
The misplaced cassettes are said to carry footage from various events spanning the Former President Rajapaksa’s tenure in office – Weliwita was working at the time as his Coordinating Secretary.
Weliwita said to media that three months ago he received a letter from the President’s Secretary regarding the matter, with allegations made against him in stealing the cassettes from the Secretariat.
Weliwita stated, “I strongly deny this allegation and I did not work for Secretariat staff to do this kind of robbery. I can’t understand why the Secretariat handed over this matter to the Police without conducting an in house inquiry. I believe the Government wants revenge on me.”
