The speculated meeting between President Maithripala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is unlikely to occur this week, Rajapaksa’s spokesman told the Daily FT.
Former President Rajapaksa’s Media Coordinator Rohana Weliwita revealed that so far neither party had approached the other over such a meeting. There were media reports that Sirisena and Rajapaksa were likely to meet on Wednesday at the Speaker’s House.
“So far a day, a time and a place have not been confirmed for such a meeting to take place as neither party has contacted the other for such a meeting,” Weliwita said.
“However, President Rajapaksa has not refused to take part in such a meeting at any point, neither has he opposed participating in such a meeting anywhere,” Weliwita added.
