United National Party (UNP) parliamentarian Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena will visit the prison with the Vice President of Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA) Ven. Dambara Amila Thero and Mannar Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Rayappu Joseph.

The group will visit the prison with Christmas treats for the detainees.

Dr. Jayawardena has told the media that he had decided to take Christmas treats for the detainees since their family members were unable to visit them during the festive season.

He has explained that inmates are usually allowed to meet their loved ones for Christmas or Vesak but these detainees have been unable to meet their loved ones because they are mostly from Mullaitivu, Jaffna and Kilinochchi areas.

According to Dr. Jayawardena, the group hopes to distribute over 100 lunch packets among the prisoners.
