More than 150 new complaints to Disappearances Commission in Mannar

Over 150 people gave written complaints to the Missing Persons Commission when it held public sittings in the Mannar District over the past four days. Secretary to the Presidential Commission on Missing Persons, H .W Gunadasa, said that in all, 157 new complaints had been received from the areas where sittings were held in Mannar. The Presidential Commission to Investigate into Complaints Regarding Missing Persons conducted sittings at the Manthai West Divisional Secretariat, the Mannar Divisional Secretariat and at the Madhu Divisional Secretariat. The Commission had invited 225 people to give oral statements during the sittings in Mannar but only 153 of them had appeared to give statements. Apart from the 153 people the Commission recorded oral statements from three others and accepted written statements from 157 new complainants. H .W Gunadasa said that that the Commission had registered the details of the 157 new complainants and dates will be given in due course for the to give oral statements before the Commission. Mannar bishop Rayappu Joseph and at least two politicians were among those who gave oral statements to the Commission during its sittings in Mannar. The Commission had previously conducted public sittings in January, February, March, June and July of this year in Kilinochchi, Jaffna, Batticaloa, Mullaitivu and again in Batticaloa respectively. (Colombo Gazette)
