Sri Lanka’s Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms, Chandrasiri Gajadeera said that socialising of rehabilitated LTTE cadres who surrendered to the government has been very successful, and only about four thousand LTTE cadres are yet to be rehabilitated.
Addressing a media conference in Colombo yesterday the Minister said that another 206 cadres will be handed over to their parents in Vavuniya today. He said that the government spends a large sum for rehabilitating these cadres.
340 children rehabilitated sat for G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination last year and 210 of them were successful at the exam, and 41 of them have gained admission to universities.
Three of them received admission to the Medical Faculty and two of them to the Engineering Faculty. He said that this alone was sufficient to counter the baseless allegations being made that human rights were being violated in Sri Lanka.
