The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to Mongolia (resident in Beijing), conveying a message from the President of Sri Lanka, invited the President of Mongolia to attend the United Nations International Vesak Celebrations to be held in Sri Lanka in May 2017.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka Karunasena Kodituwakku conveyed this message while presenting his credentials to President of Mongolia Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, in a ceremony held at the Government Palace of Mongolia in the capital Ulaanbaatar, on 15 November 2016.

Conveying his warm greetings to the President and the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj said that Mongolia is very happy to accept the invitation and that further communication in this regard may continue through diplomatic channels.

Formal diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1962, and 2017 marks the 55th anniversary of establishing these relations. During the Ambassador’s stay in Ulaanbaatar, he also met with the Foreign Minister and the Deputy Foreign Minister of Mongolia and had fruitful discussions. The Deputy Minister asked to organise an event to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Sri Lanka-Mongolia diplomatic relations.
