Indian Prime Minister to address Parliament during Lankan visitIndian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the Sri Lanka Parliament on March 13. Prime Minister Modi is to arrive in Sri Lanka on March 13 for a three-day official visit. The visit will be the first by an Indian Prime Minister since 1987. Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was the last to make a state visit to Sri Lanka. The Indian Prime Minister is also expected to visit Sri Maha Bodhiya and Ruwanwelisaya on 14th March. Modi is also scheduled to travel to Kandy and Jaffna in the North where India is funding the construction of 50,000 house for the internally displaced. The high-level visit is likely to cover an array of bilateral and strategic issues concerning the neighbors. During the visit the Indian PM is expected to tighten defence and security cooperation and push for final approval for a 500 MW power plant to be built by India’s state-run National Thermal Power Corporation under a 2012 agreement in Trincomalee, Indian officials said. |
