I am wishing all Muslims of our beloved Sri Lanka, a peaceful Eid amidst the dark clouds of uncertainty where the Muslims of the world at large have to still face the consequences of colonial oppression and exploitation says Rauff Hakeem MP, Minister of Justice and the Leader of The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress in his Eid UI Fitr Message.
Referring to the turmoil that has engulfed West Asia and a part of Africa and the violence that Muslims have had to face recently at the hands of some mystery bogey men he says despite these obstacles and violence that they faced, Muslims have steadfastly held on to the steely resolve of tolerance and peace following the path of the Holy Quran and the way of the Holy Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him).
The wounds of the war that has ended should be healed in a way that our future generations will not see its ugly scars.
The Muslims uprooted from the Northern Province have to be resettled with adequate infrastructure facilities and in an environment of harmony and security. There are yet another group of tsunami affected who have still not received any assistance to rebuild their homes. ‘The desolation and the despair of those of our brothers and sisters languishing in temporary settlements even today should and do evoke the most fundamental of the teachings of Islam that the rich are to pay out of their wealth to that extent which is sufficient for the needs of the poor.
The privileged Muslims must also think in terms of uplifting the lives of those living in poverty.
Let us pray that the lives of Muslims in Sri Lanka and abroad will bring brighter prospects in the Ramazan that greets us with hope. Let us also pray for tolerance. Let us pray for understanding each other in a spirit of common humanity in a multicultural community in our homeland Sri Lanka and in the Global Community where we will be judged justly and fairly as a nation that has overcome adversity with great sacrifices made and yet holding dear to the finest ideals of respecting the sanctity of life and liberty.
I wish a peaceful Eid to all of you personally and on behalf of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress - Eid Mubarak.
