Reuters: The Sri Lankan military has blocked hundreds of relatives of those missing and still in detention from the separatist war from travelling to Colombo for a demonstration.
“The total number of people was nearly a thousand. They were mothers who have lost their sons and daughters. Young women who have lost their husbands, children who have lost their elders. All are Sri Lankans. They were to come to Colombo, the national capital to share their agony and distress with the people in Colombo,” the movement for unity with power sharing, Mano Ganeshan said.
“It is the duty of the police to arrest those mobs who are waiting to stone public traffic, but the reverse happened. They allowed the mob to wait for them and took the buses and asked the people to get out,”The movement’s Wickramabahu Karunaraytne added.
