The SLFP Trade Union Secretary of Milco was remanded till 23 March for allegedly soliciting Rs. 50,000 and accepting a gratification of Rs. 25,000 from an ex employee of Milco to re-instate him in service.
Bribery Officers Ranjith Bandara and W.H.M. Herath producing the suspect before the Colombo Chief Magistrate Rashmi Singappuli, submitted that the complainant Don Hema Anura had alleged to the Commission to Investigate into Allegation of Bribery or Corruption that the complainant’s son was a Finance Assist in Milco on contract basis.
On expiration of the contract, the complainant’s son Ramesh Panapitiya was released from his service. The suspect who had contacted Ramesh Panapitiya had told him that to re-instate the complainant’s son in the job not only the Chairman’s signature was needed but also the signature of the minister. The suspect had told the complainant’s son that to get it done Rs. 50,000 should be paid to the Chairman of Kotagala Pradeshiya Sabha.
However the suspect was arrested by the Bribery Sleuths yesterday while the suspect accepts Rs. 25,000 from the complainant’s son.
