A visit by India’s National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon to Colombo in July will likely be followed a visit by the country’s External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid in August. Indian media reports also claim the top officials will convey New Delhi’s misgivings over the Sri Lankan Government’s moves to dilute the provisions of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution. Menon had revealed this to the TNA delegation visiting New Delhi for talks on the 13A issue and said his visit was scheduled for mid-July, the New Indian Express reports. The newspaper said that official sources in India had claimed Menon would be in Colombo to participate in the trilateral talks on maritime security between India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives and that it was customary for visiting Indian NSAs to meet President Rajapaksa, Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and other top leaders of the Government and the Opposition. Quoting the TNA, the New Indian Express said Minister Khurshid would also visit Colombo, although at a later date.
