Media ordered to hand over visuals of Welikada riot to CID

A Colombo Magistrate ordered print and electronic media organisations to hand over unedited copies of the visuals that were taken during the prison riot at the Welikada prison on Friday, 9 November to the CID.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Praharsha Ranasinghe made this order on the media organisations on considering an application made by Borella police before the Colombo Chief Magistrate Court yesterday.

In the meantime, six suspects who were produced by police in court accused of escaping from prison custody were remanded until 21 November. The Magistrate fixed the inquiry on the suspects for 28 November.
