Minister of Telecom-munication and Information Technology Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said the venue for the 9th Deyata Kirula National Development Exhibition in 2015 has been selected on the instructions of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Accordingly, the Deyata Kirula Exhibition will be held in Kotawila, Matara on a land extent of 144 acres, and at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Vidyalaya premises in Meddawatta, Matara, which has a land extent of 24 acres. Rapid development in the Districts of Galle, Matara, Hambantota and Ratnapura will take place under the Deyata Kirula Development Program 2014-2015 implemented parallel to the Deyata Kirula Exhibition. The earlier plan to hold the development exhibition in the Ruhunu University premises in Matara was changed after the students and the faculty of the University protested the plan. Minister Siyambalapitiya, the organiser of the mega development exhibition, announced that the venue will be changed to a different location but denied the change of venue was due to the students’ opposition. He said the decision to shift the exhibition was taken to prevent the Matara-Hambantota road being closed for several days, as there is no alternative route. According to Minister Siyambalapitiya, the Government intends to provide maximum benefits for the people of Matara through infrastructure development that will be carried out parallel to the exhibition.
