Mannar Magistrate Anthony Judeson who was an aggrieved party in a case where he was allegedly threatened by a Minister, made a request from Court for the certified copy of the statement given to the CID by Minister Rishad Bathiudeen to be issued on the aggrieved party in the case.
Counsel Mahendra Kumara appearing for the aggrieved party moved Court that a certified copy of the statement that is alleged to have been made by Minister Bathiudeen be issued.
The Mannar Acting Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake observed that he would consider the request in the presence of the defence and thereby ordered the Minister Bathiudeen to appear before Court on 24 September.
Meanwhile 21 suspects who were allegedly involved in the 18 July mob attack on the Mannar Court complex surrendered before Court. Counsel Dasun Nagashena with senior counsel Gamini Alwis appearing for Sri Lanka Bar Association submitted Court that they were objecting to the release of suspects on bail. Having considered the submissions, the Acting Magistrate ordered that 40 suspects including the suspects who were arrested earlier be remanded till 24 September.
Minister Bathiudeen was released on bail after he appeared before Mannar Magistrate’s Court on 27 August in connection to the case, where he is accused of threatening the Mannar Magistrate Anthony Judeson.
