UN Chief speaks of human rights, accountability and reconciliation with Mangala
New York: The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera met last week and discussed cooperation between the UN and the new Government of Sri Lanka, the UN headquarters in New York said.
During the closed door meeting, the UN Chief and the Sri Lankan Minister had addressed critical priorities for Sri Lanka, including especially human rights, accountability and reconciliation.
“The Minister of External Affairs and the Secretary-General addressed critical priorities for Sri Lanka, including especially human rights, accountability and reconciliation.
The Secretary-General has expressed his support and encouragement to the new Government in its important efforts in the first 100 days.
The UN Chief also noted the UN’s peacebuilding programs and affirmed continuous support of the organisation to Sri Lanka and its people.
The Minister was on his first visit to the US since assuming the post of Foreign Minister. The Minister held discussions with key US officials including Secretary of State John Kerry. |
