Maldives President meets GL

Minister of External Affairs Professor G.L. Peiris yesterday paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed.

 During the meeting held at the President’s Office in Male’, the President briefed Professor Peiris on the current political situation in the Maldives. He also spoke on the progress of his efforts to form a national unity government.

The President stressed that this was an opportunity to consolidate democracy in the Maldives. President Waheed further highlighted the challenges faced in stabilising economy of the country.

During the meeting, the Minister Peiris conveyed greetings from the President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa. He also conveyed President Rajapaksa’s assurance that Sri Lanka would continue assistance and corporation to the Maldives.
