Public Service United Nurses Union (PSUNU), the major trade union of Sri Lanka nursing service, says it will launch an island wide strike from January 15.
The Chairman of the PSUNU Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero says that the executive committee of the union has decided to launch the strike after giving an adequate time to the Ministry of Health to response to their demands.
The nurses’ union has submitted eight demands including implementing of the nursing constitution, beginning of the nursing degree, establishing the post of community health nurse, providing telephone and other facilities similar to the doctors.
Ananda Thero says that the Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena has accepted that their demands were reasonable due to the service they render and promised to grant the demands.
