Maithri’s rally sabotaged in Galle, MR orders probe

The stage and decorations at a rally for common opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena at Wanduramba in Galle was sabotaged yesterday by an unidentified gang.
Police said the unidentified gang had arrived in two defenders, set fire to the stage and decorations with petrol and also damaged a vehicle and speakers.
Baddegama Pradeshiya Sabha member Premalal Liyanage, who filed a complaint with the Wanduramba Police, also said three individuals installing the speakers were missing.
Southern Provincial Councillor Bandula Lal Bandarigoda said the three men may have been abducted.
Sirisena was to address a rally in Wanduramba last evening.
In response President Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the Inspector General of Police to investigate the arson attack on the stage set up for an Opposition party election rally in Wanduramba, Galle.
The President has expressed concern over the incident and ordered the IGP to arrest the perpetrators, national news agency Lankapuvath reported.
