Maithri visits Defence Ministry; assures safeguard of unitary status

President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday visited the Defence Ministry and pledged to safeguard the unitary status of the country. Sirisena who is also the Minister of Defence said the Government will take necessary steps to meet the internal and external challenges of the future.                         “Defence Ministry is not something new to me and I trust all employees attached to the defence sector,” said Sirisena who was welcomed by State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene. The President assured that concrete steps will be taken to ensure the security of the country as per the decisions during the Defence Council recently. He said the Council stressed that proposals are welcomed in this regard.   Wijewardene said he will get on with the work of the Ministry as per the advice and guidance by President Sirisena. Commanders of the three forces and Secretary Ministry of Defence B.M.U.D. Basnayake were also present.
