Common Opposition presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena has demanded Rs. 2.5 billion from Health Minister and former UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake for presenting a forged document to the media. In a letter of demand sent through his legal counsel Sandun S.K. Gamage, Sirisena said that the forged document had tarnished his image as a responsible politician who held a number of high posts as a Minister since 1989, and therefore he has sent the letter of demand. The letter of demand says that Sirisena had never signed an agreement with UNP National Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe on 1 November or any other day. Sirisena said he has learnt that there are moves to print and distribute the bogus letter among the public and has instructed his legal team to take legal action against those who create, print and distribute the forged document.
