President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as the Minister of Finance and Planning last week informed the Cabinet of Ministers of the Medium Term Expenditure Framework 2014-2016 and the preparation of Budget 2014.
The President said that the Finance Ministry has already commenced initial activities relating to the preparation of Budget 2014. He noted that as a country with a higher economic growth, encouraging development by expanding infrastructure facilities and strengthening financial management, the principal target of this strategy is to raise per-capita income over US $4,000.
A large number of projects are being implemented at rural, regional and urban levels covering social, economic and environmental sectors to achieve these targets. The 2014 Budget will also give priority to timely completion of such projects to ensure that the expected benefits of those projects will reach the general public at the earliest, Government sources said.
