The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) yesterday introduced a new low sulphur diesel named Lanka Super Diesel Four Star. The CPC, launching the new better quality diesel today, said that it has been a long-felt requirement to introduce an Ultra-Low Sulphur Diesel product to the market to cater to the requirements of the modern diesel vehicle fleet in Sri Lanka. The corporation said it is compelled to improve the quality of diesel, since it contributes a lot towards the reduction of harmful diesel exhaust emissions causing environmental pollution and serious health hazards which cost both economically and socially on the society at large. The sulphur content of Super Diesel Four Star has only 10 parts per million (ppm) of sulphur whereas the normal diesel has 500 units ppm sulphur. The Super Diesel is Environmental friendly as it reduces the emission of toxic fumes such as sulphur, oxides of nitrogen and black smoke, the CPC said. Super Diesel Four Star can be purchased at Ceypetco petrol stations and the price remains at Rs. 145 per liter, the same price of normal Lanka Super Diesel sold in the market. Minister of Petroleum Industry Anura Priyad-arshana Yapa said that the new diesel was introduced to better the performance of diesel vehicles and to prevent environmental pollution. (Colombopage)
