LG Ministry Secretary denies withholding delimitation information

Provincial Councils and Local Government Ministry Secretary Kamal Padmasiri denied withholding details of delimitation issues in particular electorates from Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya.

Deshapriya had earlier said at a press conference that he had sent a letter last May to Padmasiri seeking information on delimitation issues but had not received a reply so far.

Refuting the statement, Padmasiri insisted such a letter was not received by him. He added he only had a copy of a letter DE/LAE/1/17(II) on 11 May which was sent to Delimitation Review Committee Chairman Asoka Peiris by Deshapriya.

Padmasiri claimed making such statements without knowing the true facts was not appropriate for a responsible officer like Deshapriya. (CG)
