Lankan medical team to Philippines to assist typhoon victims

Sri Lanka has made arrangements to send medical assistance to Philippines to help the victims of the Typhoon Haiyan. Sri Lanka will send a 23-member medical team comprising specialist doctors, nurses and support staff. The team met Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa Thursday before their departure to Philippines. Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest storms ever to hit land, packing winds of nearly 190 miles per hour smashed through the central Philippines on 8 November. The super storm left over 5,632 dead, 1,759 missing, 26,000 injured and 3.8 million homeless.
