Sri Lanka police yesterday arrested the Managing Director of ‘Lanka’, the Marxist Party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) newspaper and two others for assault and theft.

Police media spokesman SSP Maxi Proctor says Managing director Venura Kumara Herath, Janaka Mahendra and Kamalaratne Rajapakse have been arrested on the charges of assaulting and a fraud of Rs.900 000.

The party is in a crisis as split factions are fighting for the ownership of the party headquarters and the party propaganda newspaper ‘Lanka’, local media reports say.

Reports said that two MPs of the JVP had come to the party propaganda newspaper Lanka and asked the management to stop publishing it. (www.colombopage.com)
