Lake Drive Rajagiriya under water

Those living in the residential area of Lake Drive in Rajagiriya have been subjected to severe inconvenience and damage to their homes and belongings due to flooding of the canal caused by the recent heavy rain.

The canal that runs adjacent to Lake Drive has been totally neglected by the authorities. The garbage from the lake that flows into the canal accumulates and causes a bad stench as well as a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Due to the negligence by the authorities to dredge and clean the water retention areas as it overflows, the Lake Drive road goes under water even when there is a little rain. School children are unable to attend school and working people are prevented from going to work.

With heavy rain, the water level has risen and the dirty water is seeping into the homes, not only causing damage to belongings and property, but also a severe health hazard.

It is time that the authorities concerned maintain the water retention areas as quickly as possible.
