Korea International Cooperation Agency Chief arrives

Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) President, Ambassador Young-Mok Kim arrived yesterday (23 October) in Sri Lanka. During his visit the KOICA President will pay a courtesy call on Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and other dignitaries. He will also hold important discussions with Ministry level officials to discuss about current and future KOICA funded development assistance programs for Sri Lanka. During his visit Ambassador Young-Mok Kim will deliver a guest lecture under the topic of “Korea Economic Development at a glance: Sharing Korea’s Development Experience and Know-how” at the University of Colombo on 24 October, 2013. Founded in 1991 as a main Official Development Assistance (ODA) channel of the Korean Government, KOICA provides development assistance for 44 developing countries worldwide. Since its commencement in 1995 KOICA grant volume for Sri Lanka reached 72 million in 2010. The Republic of Korea’s Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) for Sri Lanka aims to achieve a balanced growth and ensure a sustainable development for the post-conflict Sri Lanka. KOICA grant aid programs include development assistance for poverty alleviation, economic infrastructure development, enhancing Good Governance, capacity building for public sector and supporting the education sector in Secondary education and Technical and Vocational Training (TVET). Through World Friends Korea (WFK) program KOICA has dispatched a large number of Korean volunteers who share knowledge and provide assistance to the local communities. The international Convention Centre in Hambantota, the venue of the Youth Forum for CHOGM 2013 is a landmark KOICA funded project that will contribute to the promotion of tourism, regional development and socio-economic growth of Sri Lanka.
