Korea commends progress in Sri Lanka

External Affairs Minister Professor G.L. Peiris held bilateral discussions with Yun Byung-Se, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, on the sidelines of the Cyberspace Conference in Seoul on Wednesday. Foreign Minister Yun Byung-Se warmly commended the progress of Sri Lanka in recent years, and expressed the wish of the Korean Government to expand the scope of cooperation at all levels. Among the topics discussed at the bilateral meeting were enhanced Korean support for the development of the Sri Lankan economy, the significant development assistance given to Sri Lanka by KOICA, the development arm of the Korean Government, Korean participation in infrastructure projects and waste disposal in an urban environment, increasing employment opportunities for Sri Lankans in the Republic of Korea, and the participation of Korean companies in the Business Forum, to be held on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Sri Lanka next month. Earlier in the day, President of the Republic of Korea Park Geun-hye warmly welcomed 14 Foreign Ministers, including the External Affairs Minister of Sri Lanka, attending the conference in Seoul, and engaged in wide ranging discussions with them.
