Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Faiszer Musthapha has appealed to politicians to refrain from using the Kolonnawa garbage dump issue to score political points.

Attending a meeting held at the Kolonnawa Urban Council to discuss the issue he said that transporting garbage from one place to another was not an effective solution.  Expressing his views Musthapaha noted, “I request politicians not to use the Kolonnawa garbage issue to score political points from the public. Why can’t we work together on this matter when we have a consensual Government between the Sri Lankan Freedom Party (SLFP) and the United National Party (UNP)?”

He added President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe have directed the relevant institutions to address the matter by considering it as a national issue.

“This issue will be solved by the Government. People in Kolonnawa cannot live with this garbage dump forever. We should give them an immediate solution. I promise to solve this problem with the involvement of the Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government,” Faiszer noted.
