As the first step, under the initiative of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Ministry an agreement was signed on 28 November between Japan’s Sky International and Sri Lanka Jagota Agro Company, to export kitul treacle to Japanese market.
The agreement was signed by Priyantha Samarajeewa, Chairman of Sri Lanka Jagota Agro Company and Chairman of Japan’s Sky International Kaiso Sakura. The Japanese company is expected to buy 10,000 litres of treacle, monthly. Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Ministry Secretary V. Sivagnanasothy and Ministry Additional Secretary (Development) Susantha de Silva were present at the occasion.
