Judge reprimands CID

By T. Farook Thajudeen

The Colombo Additional Magistrate reprimanded the CID for not carrying out proper investigations in resolving the case regarding the killing of former presidential adviser Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra and four others.

Additional Magistrate Prasanna De Alwis made this observation after considering the submissions made by the counsel appearing for Mr. Silva and Ms. Premachandra.

President’s Counsel Hemantha Warnakulasuriya appearing for Duminda Silva, who is a suspect in the case, alleged that Premachandra’s daughter was commenting on court proceedings and court orders and was in a way discrediting the Court and that he would charge her for contempt of court. President’s Counsel Thirantha Walaliyadda who appeared for Ms. Premachandra said that Hirunika Premachandra had not criticized the court proceedings or court orders.

He said Hirunika had only pointed out that the CID had not done enough to arrest Duminda Silva.  Walaliyadda said that though there was a court order for his arrest the CID had not taken any action to carry it out and would even go to the international Court to seek justice if justice was not meted out to his client. The 16 suspects in this case were remanded till 5 June.
