Former Cabinet Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella has accused current Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Rajitha Senaratne of telling lies over a meeting held last week to discuss the future of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).

Senaratne told reporters at the post-Cabinet press conference on Thursday that during the SLFP meeting President Maithripala Sirisena had said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa would not receive nominations to contest the next Parliament elections.

However SLFP member and Cabinet Spokesman under the former Rajapaksa Government, Keheliya Rambukwella said that Sirisena made no such comment.

Rambukwella said that at the crucial SLFP meeting last week the President had noted that the last meeting he had with Rajapaksa had not been very successful but yet both sides kept the doors open to meet again.

Rambukwella said that when the President had made a positive comment, Senaratne had given the impression there was no chance of unity between the two leaders by making a comment in an attempt to meet his own agendas. (Colombo Gazette)
