Karzai arrives in Sri Lanka for defence seminar

Former President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai arrived in the island yesterday to attend a defence seminar.

Karzai was accorded a traditional welcome and was received by Secretary to the Ministry of Defence B.M.U.D. Basnayake upon his arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport.

The former Afghan leader is visiting the country to attend the ‘Defence Seminar – 2015′ where he will be the Chief Guest.

The two-day international defence conclave organised by the Sri Lanka Army begins today at the Galadari Hotel in Colombo. Karzai will attend the opening session of the conference and deliver the keynote address.

About 350 participants, both local and foreign are expected to attend the conference and deliberate on thematic issues related to this year’s theme ‘National Security in the Context of Emerging Global Threats’.

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva and senior Army officers were also present to welcome the visiting dignitary. (Colombo Gazette)
