The JVP yesterday issued a communiqué about the resignation of its former leader Somawansa Amarasinghe.
In its communiqué, JVP states that it did not know beforehand about Somawansa Amarasinghe’s decision, until he announced his resignation from the party.
Somawansa Amarasinghe became the talk of the town yesterday as he announced his resignation from the JVP.
Having announced his resignation, Amarasinghe stated that he would form a new party in the near future.
He also said another reason for his resignation is the inability of the current party to represent the common man.
However, the JVP also stated in a media communiqué that Amarasinghe resigned from the party on his own accord.
It further stated that the party is not agreeable at Amarasinghe’s decision, therefore, all attempts would be taken to settle the matter through discussions.
The JVP also said that it would take maximum efforts to bring back the former leader to the party.
