The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Central Committee yesterday decided to hold a mass rally in Colombo on 14 December, a party spokesman said. The mass rally is mainly against the Budget proposals of the Government, the spokesman says.
However, party internal sources say that the rally is expected to be a show of strength following consolidating power in party by Somawansa Amarasinghe faction at yesterday’s Central Committee meeting in which the dissidents did not participate. The decision to hold the rally was taken at the Central Committee meeting held yesterday.
The party has also decided to appoint a three-member disciplinary committee to make recommendations to the party as to what action should be taken against those who had violated the organisational discipline.
