As speculation builds about an Opposition presidential candidate to contest an early election, Chief Incumbent of the Kotte Nagavihara, Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero met with representatives of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna yesterday.
The main focus of the meeting was building political consensus on the abolishing of the executive presidency and implementing the 17th Amendment to the Constitution.
Representatives of Sobitha Thero’s People’s Movement for Social Justice met with the Marxist party at its headquarters in Battaramulla.
JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Member Sunil Handunetti participated in the discussions.
President’s Counsel Jayampathi Wickremaratne and Attorneys-at-Law J.C. Weliamuna and Nimal Punchihewa attended the meeting. (DB)
