JVP rebels to launch new political movement

The rebel group of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) says that they will launch a new political movement called People’s Struggle Movement.  The first rally of the People’s Struggle Movement would be held on 13 December at Hyde Park in Colombo, said a party spokesman.

However, they say that they will remain as party members of JVP despite launching the new political movement. Close to a half of the JVP Central Committee members are now in the dissident group of the party although the group led by party leader Somawansa Amarasinghe has grabbed power in the headquarters and the other property.  Recently they removed a Central Committee member who belonged to the dissident group on disciplinary grounds.(Colombo Page)
