The leader of Sri Lanka’s Marxist party, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, Anura Kumara Dissanayake has attended the Asian Political Parties’ Special Conference on the Silk Road held in Beijing, China.
The conference, hosted by the Communist Party of China, was held from 14 -16 October under the theme ‘New Vision for the Silk Road: New Action for Common Development’.
The three-day conference aims to create a platform for political parties from Asian nations in China’s Belt and Road initiative, to exchange ideas and enhance policy coordination to realise the concept.
Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013 announced the Belt and Road initiative, which comprises the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, to promote connectivity, cooperation and common prosperity along the ancient land and maritime Silk Road trade routes.
The conference included panel discussions on political cooperation, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and business cooperation.
Members of over 60 political parties and organisations from more than 30 countries have participated in this special conference.
The General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President of China met the delegates and closed the conference on Friday.
